Donna Nordstrom (owner/operator) is an internationally certified return-to-work professional, gaining her certification through the National Institute of Disability Management and Research (NIDMAR). She has extensive experience in disability management, handling complex rehabilitation and return to work challenges. Donna has a client-focused and comprehensive approach to disability case management. She brings a unique perspective and ability to assess and remove barriers to recovery and return-to-work plans. This includes facilitating a wide range of return-to-work scenarios despite inherently complex rehabilitation challenges.
Julie Bell (owner) is an occupational therapist and the owner and operator of Optimize Occupational Therapy Services (2006 - www.optimizeot.ca) in Winnipeg, MB. Since graduating from the University of Manitoba (2002), she has actively practiced in Winnipeg, as well as in rural and northern Manitoba. Julie’s extensive experience and expertise in her field have allowed her to provide services for many prestigious companies, including the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, MPI, Caisse Financial, UNIVAR, Monarch Industries, Association of MB Municipalities, and Manitoba Provincial Government Agencies (CFS, EIA, Crown Attorneys, Corrections). Her skills in mentoring, teaching and educating have made her a leader in the occupational therapy community.
Joanne Vanderhorst is an occupational therapist with over 17 years of experience working within the vocational and industrial rehabilitation industry.
Joanne brings a creative, practical, and holistic approach to her work with clients, insurers, and business partners. In addition to the more well-known occupational therapy services in this industry, Joanne’s creative approach to vocational rehabilitation has led to the development of new offerings including the Administrative Reconditioning Program and the Therapist Onsite Program.
Joanne holds a Bachelor of Medical Rehabilitation Degree, augmented by industry-specific training for both Cognitive and Functional Capacity Evaluations (Matheson), Worksite Evaluations, and Physical Demands Analyses. She is a certified PGAP (Progressive Goal Attainment Program) provider. Joanne is licensed to practice by the College of Occupational Therapists of Manitoba and registered with the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists. Joanne is a member of the Vocational Rehabilitation Association of Canada and the Claims Association of Manitoba.
Brette Cain is a registered practical nurse specializing in basic, advanced, and diabetic foot care. She began her career in health care in 2013 as a personal support worker at Atikokan General Hospital. Graduating with honours, she obtained her Practical Nursing Diploma and license in 2015. She continues to work at the Atikokan General Hospital as an RPN on the Acute Care Unit and Extended Care Unit. In 2016, she received her certificate of completion for the Foot Care Nurse Program, specializing in basic, advanced, and diabetic foot care. Brette enjoys working with people of all ages; however, there is a special place in her heart for the older generation. She saw firsthand the importance of proper foot care, and how she could help in this one area for a generation of people who may have a variety of health conditions.
Apart from Brette’s professional expertise, she is kind, energetic, and motivated person who has a passion for providing exceptional care of your feet, contributing to your overall health.
Nicola Stubbs , Occupational Therapist
Nicola received her Masters of Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Alberta in 2013 following a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences. Nicola has experience providing direct occupational therapy and case management services in acute care, orthopedics, and community home care settings.
Nicola has valid Nonviolent Crisis Intervention and Basic Life Support certification, and is registered with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO). She has also co-authored a chapter on sleep and trauma-exposed workers.
Nicola is originally from Alberta, and is excited to be serving the Sioux Lookout area.
Nathan V. Benvenuto, Chiropractor
Born and raised in Thunder Bay, Dr. Benvenuto holds a Bachelor of Science (Biology) from Lakehead University and a Doctorate in Chiropractic, complete with Dean’s list and Clinical Honours from Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. He is certified in Instrument-Assisted Soft-Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) and an Integrated Therapeutics TM certified provider in spine, upper and lower limb. He provides Diversified Chiropractic in combination with drop-pieces, joint mobilizations, myofascial release therapy (MRT) and a wide-range of pain/healing modalities
Throughout his career, Dr. Benvenuto has worked with a spectrum of athletes ranging from CIS to competitive/recreational youth. He has extensive ties in the northwestern community throughout his years of playing competitive sports including soccer and football, as well as being an active volunteer for a variety of organizations within the community. Dr. Benvenuto is excited to be providing care at North Stream Rehabilitation Centre.
Dr. Paul Johnston (and associates)
Dr. Paul Johnston is a licensed clinical psychologist, registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario, who brings more than 25 years of clinical assessment and treatment experience to the Independent Assessment process. He has worked extensively in psychiatric inpatient and hospital-based outpatient settings, as well as in private outpatient clinics.
His private practice, along with his long-standing association with commercial, industrial and motor vehicle/automotive insurance companies, has given him many years of experience assessing and treating emotional and psychiatric conditions. This has included intervention, assessment and treatment of complex trauma, performance and workplace risk assessment, and clinical psychiatric cases, including anxiety and panic, mood disorders, pain and pain management, and personality disorders.
Dr. Johnston is an Adjunct Professor with Lakehead University, is affiliated with the University of Toronto as a Lecturer, and is the former Director of Training, Northern Ontario Psychology Internship Consortium (NORPIC). His past experience includes 20 years as a consultant with St. Joseph's Care Group.
Annette Tanner , our Medical Office Administrator is a seasoned customer service expert with more than 20 years experience. Annette brings with her previous clinic management experience and understands firsthand the importance in quality care and exceptional service. Also having held various management positions in sales and being an entrepreneur herself, Annette has the ability to tailor her skills to meet the various needs of our clients. She is an active member of the Atikokan Chamber of Commerce where she sits on the Board of Directors.
Born and raised in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Amber graduated Massage Therapy from Everest College in 2014.
Her focus is on therapeutic and rehabilitation goals through Swedish massage techniques. Amber has a special interest in neck and back tension for headache and stress reduction as well as postural corrections made through stretching and remedial exercise. Amber is also Bamboo-Fusion Certified.
